For the Girl Who Struggles With Finding Her Purpose

For the girl who struggles with finding purpose
You ever wake up and think to yourself, “Why am I even here? What is the purpose of life?”
You might have even gone to look for that purpose by continually setting goals and achieving them or perhaps you look for society to tell you what your life’s purpose is. Why society?
I mean people around us usually seem happy, especially on social media. Everyone is currently “living their best life” (who started that anyway?). So it’s easy to feel as though your life could be better. When things don’t go as we plan, we quickly associate that with our life being purposeless.
I’m having so much fun sharing this with you this because I truly want you to understand this:

YOU HAVE A PURPOSE.

This truth may be hard for you to swallow but it’s a beautiful and pure truth. God created each one of us with purpose. Yes, that includes your parents; siblings; people you love; people you’re trying hard to love; the homeless ones on the street- every single person was made with a purpose.

Way before you started learning about God, He already had a purpose for you. You will learn what that purpose is when you have a personal relationship with Him.

God created you for His purpose.

For through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth… Everything was created through him and for him. Colossians 1:16

The most important thing you’ll have to keep in mind is that you were created by God and for God. Whenever someone creates something, they’re the best person to describe what the purpose of their creation is. The same model applies here. God created us so He’s the one who knows why He created us. So guess what that means?

If we want to know why we were created, we can’t look to other people to tell us, we can’t even look to ourselves to start guessing. We must look to God.

Difference between achieving your goals and living out His purpose for you

I’m sure you’re all too familiar with stories of celebrities that have been successful in society’s standard but still find themselves not wanting to live any longer. I share that to say it’s possible for us to set a goal and achieve it but that doesn’t necessarily mean that that was God’s plan for us. After we’ve achieved a goal; we may find ourselves unfulfilled. Habitually, we’d move on to the next goal- hoping that we’ll find more satisfaction from that.

Often times the reason why we feel unfulfilled after reaching a milestone is that we’re still not living God’s purpose for our life. Don’t get me wrong. Setting goals is a must; yet when we set goals without making God the center, achieving them become nearly purposeless.

Finding Purpose

I’m sure we’ve all been there. I know I went through a time where I was asking God why was I created. I began understanding that I indeed had a purpose when I started my relationship with Christ. As I started growing and reading the Bible, I realized that God laid out his purpose for me in His Word. That’s right. The Bible.

Okay, just in case you’re wondering if God wrote in the Bible for me to start a blog or be a teacher and etc.? The answer is no (lol). I know that’s a silly question but at one time as a new believer, I was literally looking for “Biblical signs” for God to tell me what to do with my life. The amazing thing about God is that He’s a creative God. He gives each one of us different interests, skills and desires which often times ties into our purpose.

Here’s what I’ve learned about purpose:

God does tell us what He wants us to do

He tells us about the things that will create eternal value.

In Ephesians 4:23-24, we’re told to “Let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.  Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy”.

We’re created to serve others for His glory.

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them”. Ephesians 2:10

We’re called to GO (all of us)

“As the Father has sent Me, I also send you” -John 20:21

As the body of Christ, we are also commanded in the Gospel of Matthew to “Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.  Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

“Going” doesn’t necessarily have to be going to a third world country to evangelize. Going could be us sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ at our job, to a stranger we pass by…

I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.

This was part of Jesus’ prayer to His Father in John 17. Just like Jesus’ purpose was to glorify the Father; the same is true for us. Our purpose is to bring Him glory in all that we do. Remember, just because what you’re doing is new and different does not mean you can’t bring God glory through it (as long as it’s biblical).
