I’ll never forget that time when my mentor was leading a bible study on the book of James-though it has been a few years, she explained the book in such detailed and applicable manner that this book has since been my favorite.

Today I want to share 10 of my favorite verses from James:

1. My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. (1:2-3)

2. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. (5-6)

3.  So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;(19)

4.  But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror;² for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. (22-24)

5.  For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. (2:10)

6.  What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?  If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. (2:14-17)

Phew! I know that was a handful from a small book of only 5 chapters but there is so much to learn from this epistle.

I love that James is challenging us to not just believe but to exercise our faith.
